The program was born with theobjective of addressing the problem of childhood disability. According to estimates 4,6% of the Kenyan population she is affected by disabilities and the number increases significantly if we consider the context of the slums, where the majority of the disabled population is made up of children. The high incidence of childhood disability is mainly due to problems encountered during pregnancy, the conditions in which mothers are forced to give birth (without any medical assistance) or domestic accidents. Disability not only impairs the development of children, but is subject to stigmatization by the community, marginalizing and often dividing families.

Il Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP), conducted on a community basis with the involvement of the children's families, offers the following services: handicap screening, corrective surgery, rehabilitation and physiotherapy for disabled children in slums.

Un team of professionals (physiotherapists, occupational therapists) offers regularly personalized rehabilitation sessions for beneficiary children directly at the peripheral gym closest to them, or, in case of special needs, at the Physiotherapy Department of the RU Neema Hospital. Following a specific screening and a rehabilitation / preparation process, some cases may benefit from corrective surgery operations performed in the operating room of the RU Neema Hospital. The surgeries are performed by World Friends orthopedic surgeons, who specifically go on a mission to Nairobi for a period of 3 weeks every six months. During the missions, they carry out regular training sessions aimed at medical personnel, physiotherapists, and the families of the children involved in the program.

With the company Community Rehabilitation Program, World Friends not only responds to the need for medical assistance and social integration of the children involved, but favors the emancipation of their mothers, who can deal with other parents who experience the same difficulties and thus overcome the stigma that exists against disability.
